Case study - CAD-eXchange
Matthew Parkes approached me with a great opportunity to stretch my knowledge of PHP and to venture out into an idea he'd had for quiet a while. He requested a site that looked good but with the ability for his clients to swap files in a secure user-end used for managing AutoCAD drawings.
The layout had to be easy to understand and relatively quick operation for beginners.
One of the biggest needs of this site was the behind-the-scenes operation. Matthew wanted to be able to change the text on any of the pages on the website without having to trawl through HTML code or accessing the site via some third-party program. I suggested the benefits of a content-management system. Not only did it meet his approval but the techniques used in the software allowed me to experiment with different approaches to common problems and push my learning forward.
